I was thrilled to be involved in delivering the Flexibility and Core strengthening sessions to the student-athletes of the High Performance Sporting Program. We have given particular attention to primarily co-ordinating our movement with our breath, attending to how certain postures feel in our bodies, and learning about the deep muscles that assist in stabilising the spine and pelvis. A common thread throughout the classes has also been in allowing the athletes to develop an awareness of self, and learning to find control within both flexibility and strengthening postures, often referred to as finding the ‘edge’ of discomfort, as opposed to overloading or over straining the body. Classes always finished with relaxation and breath awareness to counter the movement and ideally illustrate that performance is enhanced not only by attention to the physical body, but also by bringing awareness to the thoughts of the mind and patterns of breath. I look forward to continuing to work with the student-athletes of the High Performance Sporting Program.
